Conclusion!

At the conclusion of the Internet Technology class, yes we can do more then just ordinary email and searching. In the ten years I have used a computer, as they say, we have come a long way. I am amazed at all of the new 23 things I have learned in the last nine weeks. I hope to use at least some of the programs I have used during the class.
Thank you for the opportunity to improve my computer knowledge.

NetLibrary

I downloaded a book from NetLibrary to the desktop on my computer.
The book I am downloading as I post this message on my blog is, "Forever Young: My Friendship with John F. Kennedy Jr. by Noonan and William Sylvester and Robert Huber.
Our Llano Library has a subscription to NetLibrary to download eAudio books.
The NetLibrary, eAudio books are very popular with our patrons. Patrons who have to drive long distances, download eAudio books to their computers and then sync the eAudio books to their MP3 players.

Pod Casting

I visited the Librarian Live, listened to Librarian Live Episode 66- The Boomer Generation: What are they looking for: boomers have higher standards, library must be clean and bright and library must look nice. Informational messages via podcasting can promote our libraries.

I found the site http://www.cnn.com/services/ podcasting to be very interesting and will subscribe to this podcast.

A day at Lost Maples State Natural Area

Photos from a trip to the park. We love to hike and watch nature, while on a recent visit to the park, a Tufted Titmouse was very entertaining when it ate Girl Scout trail mix out of our hand.

Web 2.0 Awards

MAPS, the site I was not familiar with was Live Maps, maps.live.com I especially liked the Birds Eye view on this site. It will be a site I will use in the future.

TRAVEL, the site boo.com was new information for me. It has maps and reviews of hotels.
I will probably use this site to comparison shop for hotels when we are on vacation.

PHOTOS AND DIGITAL IMAGES, we have worked with flickr and picassa during our exercise but I thought the site picnik.com was an interesting site and would let you edit your photos and appeared to be easy to use.

Zoho Writer and Google Docs

I have an account in Zoho Writer and feel this would be a good tool to use for storing documents and the features of sharing and publishing appear pretty easy. Although I am having a problem getting my Zoho document put on my blog. I can not seem to get the correct username and password. Will keep trying!!
The Goolge Doc is also good, but may not have as many features. I copied a recipe on to Google Doc and Zoho writer and would like to add them to my blog.

CTLS 23 things favorite wiki

This was very easy to set up an account and edit on a Favorite vacation spot and music.

The Sandbox is a cool term "for playing in the sand", an area of the website used for play.

I had no problem with the Favorites wiki, but on the Favorite Blogs page, I was very confused about where to put my blog address. I may not have my address under the correct list.

Week 7 Wikis

A Wiki is a collaborative website which allows users to easily add, remove and edit content.

The movie example, "Wiki in Plain English", explained the use of a wiki as a useful tool for organizing an event or program.

My favorite wiki, is wikipedia, the online open community encyclopedia. I do question the information on a wiki of this sort, is it correct information. I would use the site for information and research but refer to other sources as well.

I looked at all of the wiki examples in the exercise and felt the ALA wiki had and endless supply of wikis for every subject imaginable.

Inside our library we could use a wiki for sharing ideas for programming. Our Friends members could have a wiki to correspond with one another on fundraisers for the library.

I thought this exercise was very interesting and a valuable learning experience.
